Take some time to get to know your Wake Forest family dentist, Dr. Robbie Smith, below!

1. Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born in Fayetteville (military brat!) and moved to Greensboro at age 5 where I grew up.

2. Did you always want to be a dentist? What made you want to become a dentist?

I only decided to become a dentist after a childhood friend of mine who went to NCSU with me and was a year ahead of me decided to apply to dental school.  He was an amazing artist and knew that there was definitely artistry involved in dentistry and thought he could make a good living being a Dentist.  He actually convinced me to visit the UNC School of Dentistry (even though I seriously laughed at him) and so I did. I fell in love with the school and decided to apply, got accepted four weeks late, and the rest is history.

3. What is your favorite dentistry service to perform?

I do love the artistry involved in dentistry and I love transforming a broken smile into a beautiful smile whether through porcelain veneers, anterior composites, or simply reshaping broken, jagged teeth.

 4. What is your overall favorite part of being a dentist?

My favorite part of being a dentist is helping people with extreme dental anxiety become happy, comfortable dental patients who feel safe and secure under my and my team’s care.

5. As a family & cosmetic dentist, what is one piece of advice you have to maintain a healthy dental routine from a young age?

My advice for a healthy at-home routine is to drink water throughout the day to help maintain a neutral PH in the mouth and to always brush and floss before bed.

6. What is your favorite tooth-friendly treat?

I love to slice apples with cheese as a great tooth friendly treat.

7. What is your favorite brand of toothpaste?

‘Sensodyne Pronamel’ is my favorite toothpaste currently, but my favorite old standby is definitely the original plain (no whitening or tartar control) ‘Crest’ paste. Most pastes now contain too many additives that are abrasive and cause autoimmune-like reactions in many people and could be damaging to the enamel if used too often.  These added chemicals are unnecessary if you are having your routine maintenance and cleaning appointments with your dental hygienist.

8. If you could have any Hollywood Star’s smile whose would it be?

I absolutely love Jennifer Lopez’s smile!

9. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love being at home enjoying the comings and goings of my teenagers and their friends.  I am also a devoted yogi, love Zumba fitness and playing golf with my husband.

10. What is your favorite quote about smiling?

“Your smile is your best accessory!”
